There’s a new physical ed class coming to elementary schools, and it’s coming as a shock.
“The new school year is here,” says the school board of a school district in Illinois.
“This is a new way of learning.”
The class is called “The Physical Activity Center,” and it will be available in classrooms and at public schools starting next year.
The goal is to encourage physical activity, reduce obesity, and prevent and treat childhood obesity, says Mark Johnson, the school district’s director of educational initiatives.
And it sounds good: The new class is scheduled to be up and running by the end of the year.
So what’s the catch?
According to the new program’s website, the goal of the class is to teach physical activity and healthy eating habits.
But the new curriculum is still in development, and there are no set dates for when the class will be offered.
“The new class will allow students to explore physical activity while also helping to build their physical and mental health,” the website reads.
“We will not be providing specific tips for physical activity.
But we will share the information we’ve developed with the kids so they can make informed decisions about how they want to spend their time and their money.”
So what exactly does the new class offer?
It’s supposed to be a series of hands-on exercises and fun activities that will include activities like yoga, swimming, and even gymnastics.
The classes will also offer “a variety of fun activities and exercises for students to try and improve their physical fitness.”
The curriculum will be taught by a physical education teacher, and some students will get a certificate that will let them work with the new teacher to improve their skills.
The school district says that it will not charge for the class.
Johnson says that the goal is for the physical activity program to “help improve the health of the children.”
He says that while the school year will be short, the program will have a lasting impact.
“We want the kids to stay active,” he says.
“It’s a great way to raise the morale of the kids and make them feel confident in their abilities.”
For students, the physical ed program will be a new option to learn physical activity in school.
“It’s exciting,” says a ninth-grade student.
“I feel like it’s going to help my health.”
The new program, which is expected to cost between $300,000 and $500,000, is a big step forward for Johnson.
But he acknowledges that there are still a lot of things to work out before the program can be rolled out.
“Some things need to be done like getting the equipment for the classroom,” he tells The Huffington Post.
“And it’s a long-term project.
There are still some things that we’re still working out.”
So far, Johnson says that he’s received positive feedback from students and parents.
“I’m looking forward to the feedback from the parents,” he adds.
